Why Austemper?

 Austemper Heat Treating allows for the controlled formation of a bainite microstructure of the material. This can provide a more favorable combination of strength and ductility to the material compared to other conventional quench and temper processes. It also reduces the risk of distortion or cracking during the quenching process as well as provides enhanced wear resistance. 

What material can be austempered? 

Primarily steels with a medium to high carbon content. (.40% or more)

Can parts that are oil quenched and tempered be austempered?

In most cases, yes! In fact, parts that are austempered often have more desirable properties such as more ductility and toughness, less distortion, elimination of cracking and a cleaner and shinier finish, which could help eliminate downstream processes  such as cleaning, straightening and forming, thus saving costs!

We provide quality testing on all orders that are processed. Our primary testing is done on digital Rockwell Hardness Testers. We can also section and mount parts to test on a Microhardness Tester.

We also perform microstructure analysis to confirm grain structure transformation and lack of decarburization.
